  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to violations of traffic law;

  3         amending s. 316.1935, F.S.; increasing

  4         penalties for fleeing or attempting to elude a

  5         law enforcement officer and aggravated fleeing

  6         and eluding a law enforcement officer;

  7         providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (5) of section 316.1935, Florida

12  Statutes, is amended to read:

13         316.1935  Fleeing or attempting to elude a law

14  enforcement officer; aggravated fleeing and eluding.--

15         (5)  The court may revoke, for a period not to exceed 1

16  year, the driver's license of any operator of a motor vehicle

17  convicted of a violation of subsection (1). The court shall

18  revoke, for a period of not less than 1 year and not more than

19  5 years, the driver's license of any operator of a motor

20  vehicle convicted of a violation of, subsection (2) or,

21  subsection (3). The court shall revoke, for a period of not

22  less than 5 years and not more than 25 years, the driver's

23  license of any operator of a motor vehicle convicted of a

24  violation of, or subsection (4).

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2000.
