  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to insurance; amending s.

  3         626.2815, F.S.; allowing certain interactive,

  4         on-line continuing education courses to use

  5         unmonitored testing; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Paragraph (j) of subsection (4) of section

11  626.2815, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

12         626.2815  Continuing education required; application;

13  exceptions; requirements; penalties.--

14         (4)  The following courses may be completed in order to

15  meet the continuing education course requirements:

16         (j)  Any course, including courses relating to agency

17  management or errors and omissions, developed or sponsored by

18  any authorized insurer or recognized agents' association or

19  insurance trade association or any independent study program

20  of instruction, subject to approval by the department,

21  qualifies for the equivalency of the number of classroom hours

22  assigned thereto by the department.  However, unless otherwise

23  provided in this section, continuing education hours may not

24  be credited toward meeting the requirements of this section

25  unless the course is provided by classroom instruction or

26  results in a monitored examination. A monitored examination is

27  not required for an independent study program of instruction

28  that is presented through interactive, on-line technology that

29  the department determines has sufficient internal testing to

30  validate the student's full comprehension of the materials

31  presented.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
