  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to driver licenses; creating s.

  3         322.2617, F.S.; providing for a notice by

  4         registered letter to a person whose driver

  5         license is going to be suspended or revoked

  6         prior to the suspension or revocation;

  7         prohibiting suspension or revocation for a

  8         certain time period; providing an effective

  9         date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Section 322.2617, Florida Statutes, is

14  created to read:

15         322.2617  Driver license notification required prior to

16  suspension.--In addition to any other requirement provided for

17  in this chapter or in any provision of the Florida Statutes

18  with respect to the suspension or revocation of a driver

19  license, prior to the suspension or revocation of a driver

20  license, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

21  must first send a registered letter to the address on the

22  person's current driver license, providing that person with a

23  30-day notice of the reason or reasons for the suspension or

24  revocation together with instructions on what the person may

25  do to avoid the suspension or revocation, if possible. No

26  suspension or revocation of a driver license shall take effect

27  until 30 days from the date that the registered letter is

28  delivered, or notice is received indicating that the problem

29  requiring a revocation or suspension has been resolved.

30         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

31  law.
