  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to facility designations;

  3         naming the football field at Florida State

  4         University in honor of Coach Bobby Bowden;

  5         providing a contingent effective date.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, Coach Robert C. "Bobby" Bowden has been the

  8  head football coach in over 300 victories, a feat that places

  9  him among the winningest college football coaches of all time,

10  and

11         WHEREAS, Coach Bowden's leadership has produced a

12  Heisman Trophy winner and numerous All-Americans, and

13         WHEREAS, under Coach Bowden's leadership, Florida State

14  University has won the national championship in 1993 and,

15  following an undefeated regular season, the first ever

16  "wire-to-wire" number one ranking in 1999, and has been

17  declared by the President of the United States as "the team of

18  the decade" for the 1990's, NOW, THEREFORE,

19

20  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

21

22         Section 1.  The football field at Florida State

23  University is named "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell

24  Stadium." The Florida State University shall erect appropriate

25  signs bearing the designation made by this act.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect on the first day

27  following Coach Bobby Bowden's official retirement as head

28  football coach at Florida State University.
