11  The Committee on General Government Appropriations offered the

12  following:

14         Amendment (with title amendment) 

15         On page 50, between lines 15 and 16, of the bill

16

17  insert:

18         Section 14.    Section 373.1401 is amended to read:

19

20         373.1401  Management of lands of water management

21  districts.--The governing board of each water management

22  district may contract with a federal or state agency, a

23  county, a municipality, or any other governmental entity or

24  environmental nonprofit organization to provide for the

25  improvement, management, or maintenance of any real property

26  owned by or under the control of the district.  The

27  Cooperative and license agreement between the Central and

28  Southern Florida Flood Control District and the United States

29  of America, dated November 22, 1950, as amended, shall not be

30  extended automatically as provided in the agreement but may be

31  extended to a date no later than January 1, 2003.  Written

 1  notice of termination and cancellation of the automatic

 2  extensions of this agreement by the Executive Director of the

 3  South Florida Water Management District shall be provided, no

 4  later than September 1, 2000, to the person or entity of the

 5  United States of America who is designated under the agreement

 6  to receive such notice.  Any renewal or extension of this

 7  Cooperative and license agreement or any other lease or

 8  management agreement after January 1, 2003 between the South

 9  Florida Water Management District and any Department, Agency

10  or entity of the United States of America for the management

11  or occupancy of State or District owned land within Water

12  Conservation Area 1 must be based upon prior, specific

13  legislative authorization by law.
