  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Official Florida

  3         Treasures Program; creating s. 265.2867, F.S.;

  4         providing legislative intent; creating the

  5         Official Florida Treasures Program; authorizing

  6         the Department of State to designate an object

  7         or organization as an Official Florida

  8         Treasure; authorizing the department to adopt

  9         rules; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Section 265.2867, Florida Statutes, is

14  created to read:

15         265.2867  Official Florida Treasures Program.--

16         (1)  It is the intent of the Legislature to honor the

17  cultural, historical, and social treasures of this state and

18  to recognize those organizations that provide significant

19  contributions to preserving these treasures.

20         (2)(a)  There is created within the Department of State

21  the Official Florida Treasures Program.

22         (b)  Under this program, the Department of State may

23  designate an object that is of significant cultural,

24  historical, or social value to this state, or an organization

25  that provides significant contributions to preserving such an

26  item, as an "Official Florida Treasure." The Department of

27  State shall establish, by rule, criteria for the designation

28  of an object or organization as an "Official Florida

29  Treasure."

30         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

31  law.
