  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring the Davie Tigers for

  3         winning the 1999 Khoury League Baseball

  4         national championship.

  6         WHEREAS, the Davie Tigers, consisting of 14-year-old

  7  and 15-year-old boys, many of whom have played together since

  8  their T-ball days, swept the nationals in three games with

  9  blowout scores, and

10         WHEREAS, the team washed cars, shook donation cans at

11  Publix, and hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise money for their

12  $10,000 travel expenses, and

13         WHEREAS, the Davie community responded with many

14  substantial donations, including those from Davie Mayor Harry

15  Venis, the Davie Town Council, the Shenandoah Neighborhood

16  Homeowners Association, the Davie Fraternal Order of Police,

17  Davie activist Bill Edmondson, and several local businesses,

18  NOW, THEREFORE,

20  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

21

22         That the Florida Senate commends the members and

23  coaches of the Davie Tigers baseball team for becoming the

24  1999 Khoury League Baseball national champs.

25         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

26  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Davie

27  Tigers as a tangible token of the sentiments and good wishes

28  of the Florida Senate.
