1 Senate Resolution No.
2 A resolution recognizing April 7, 2000, as
3 "Building Safety Day."

5 WHEREAS, the construction of safe homes and buildings
6 is essential to the health, safety, and welfare of the
7 residents of the State of Florida, and
8 WHEREAS, the State of Florida is geographically
9 vulnerable to hurricanes, tornadoes, freshwater flooding, and
10 other natural disasters that, in the past, have caused
11 extensive loss of life and property and severe disruption to
12 essential human services, and
13 WHEREAS, the construction of safe homes and buildings
14 and the enforcement of a unified building code can reduce the
15 loss of life and property that is associated with hurricanes,
16 tornadoes, and other high-wind events, and
17 WHEREAS, both the legislative and executive branches of
18 Florida government recognize the importance of a unified
19 building code that will lead to the construction of safe,
20 energy-efficient, and accessible homes and buildings for all
21 Floridians, and
22 WHEREAS, in order for safe construction and building
23 codes to be effective and enforced, understanding and
24 cooperation must exist between the Florida Building Commission
25 and local building code officials and the people they serve,
26 and
27 WHEREAS, through the efforts of code officials within
28 the State of Florida and their continued cooperative
29 relationship with the construction industry, the
30 administration of health and lifesafety standards is assured,
31 NOW, THEREFORE,
