1 Senate Resolution No.
2 A resolution recognizing April 17, 2000, as
3 "Florida 4-H Day."

5 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program includes 298,304
6 children and 19,732 volunteers and brings together resources
7 of local, state, and federal governments with committed
8 citizens and the private sector, and
9 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program participants, who
10 dedicate themselves to "learning by doing," are involved in a
11 diverse array of projects, from animal science to xeriscaping,
12 and
13 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H members and volunteers are
14 dedicated to community service, devoting tens of thousands of
15 hours to their schools, their communities, and their state,
16 and
17 WHEREAS, the 2000 state project, "4-H'ers Helping the
18 Hungry," encourages clubs and individual 4-H'ers to help
19 alleviate hunger in their communities through actions such as
20 collecting food for the needy, volunteering time with
21 hunger-relief groups such as food banks and soup kitchens, and
22 holding fund raisers, donating the earnings to the fight
23 against hunger, and
24 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H members are actively engaged
25 in citizenship and leadership activities which enable them to
26 be productive members of society and to contribute to the
27 greater good of all mankind, and
28 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program performs an invaluable
29 service in the part it plays in preparing today's youth for
30 the future workplace, while encouraging them to be leaders,
31 not only tomorrow, but also today, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the Florida Senate pauses in its deliberations to
4 express its appreciation of the efforts of the Florida 4-H
5 program and to recognize April 17, 2000, as "Florida 4-H Day."
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
7 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
8 Florida 4-H Foundation as a tangible token of the sentiments
9 of the Florida Senate.
