1 Senate Resolution No.
2 A resolution commending Roger P. Stewart for 30
3 years of outstanding service with the
4 Hillsborough County Environmental Protection
5 Commission.

7 WHEREAS, Roger P. Stewart has for 30 years nurtured and
8 developed the Environmental Protection Commission of
9 Hillsborough County, created by special act of the
10 Legislature, from a 2-person staff into a highly professional
11 local environmental regulatory agency, respected by residents,
12 the business community, local governments, and his
13 professional peers, while also attaining state and national
14 recognition, and
15 WHEREAS, Roger P. Stewart was always plain spoken and
16 sometimes courageously outspoken when he believed that
17 Florida's fragile environment was imminently threatened, his
18 aggressive leadership in implementing the obligations under
19 the special act put would-be polluters on notice that no one
20 was immune from the requirements of the law, and
21 WHEREAS, Roger P. Stewart was responsible for
22 establishing and maintaining for Tampa Bay one of the first
23 long-term comprehensive water quality monitoring systems in
24 Florida and an extensive air sampling network for Hillsborough
25 County, both of which have served as invaluable and
26 irreplaceable sources of historical data about our
27 environment, and
28 WHEREAS, Roger P. Stewart, through his common-sense
29 belief that all arms of government should cooperate in the
30 public interest, has worked tirelessly to obtain federal,

1 state, and local commitment to communicate and share resources
2 in addressing mutual concerns, and
3 WHEREAS, Roger P. Stewart has decided to step down from
4 public service as he retires from the Environmental Protection
5 Commission, leaving an enduring legacy to the residents and
6 the lands, air, and waters of Hillsborough County, NOW,
7 THEREFORE,

9 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

11 That the Florida Senate commends Roger P. Stewart as he
12 leaves the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection
13 Commission after 30 years of outstanding public service.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
15 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Roger P.
16 Stewart as a tangible token of the sentiments and good wishes
17 of the Florida Senate.
