  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring Ms. Marie H.

  3         Jackson-Wimberly for her service and dedication

  4         to her community.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly is a native of

  7  the State of Georgia and taught school there for 17 years, and

  8         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly moved to Florida

  9  in 1940 and began work in the Hillsborough County School

10  System as a substitute teacher, and

11         WHEREAS, Ms. Wimberly's motto is "Serve your fellowman

12  while you can," and she set out to do just that in the City of

13  Tampa, and

14         WHEREAS, she organized the New Salem Play School that

15  catered to children who had been retained or experienced

16  failure in the public schools in 1947, and

17         WHEREAS, the name of the school changed to the New

18  Salem Kindergarten in 1948 and to its current name of

19  Wimberly's Pre-School and Kindergarten in 1969, and

20         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly has served the

21  Tampa Bay community faithfully and with pride and dedication,

22  and

23         WHEREAS, Ms. Wimberly has had a tremendous impact on

24  the lives and the education of thousands of youngsters, their

25  families, and other citizens in Tampa and Hillsborough County,

26  and

27         WHEREAS, Ms. Wimberly has received numerous awards for

28  her community and educational involvement and humanitarian

29  service, and

  1         WHEREAS, there are many outstanding citizens in Tampa

  2  and Hillsborough County who got their start at the Wimberly's

  3  Pre-School and Kindergarten, and

  4         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly has operated and

  5  served the Wimberly's Pre-School and Kindergarten and its

  6  predecessors for more than 52 years and still continues to

  7  serve, and

  8         WHEREAS, Ms. Wimberly and her school has been an

  9  educational beacon of light for the education of youngsters

10  from all sources and economic levels, and

11         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly is a beloved and

12  well-respected member of the education arena and the Tampa Bay

13  community, and

14         WHEREAS, Ms. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly, at 98 years of

15  age, continues to actively participate in the operation of the

16  kindergarten and in the education of the youngsters, and

17         WHEREAS, Ms. Wimberly's friends, neighbors, former

18  students, and community leaders prepare to honor her at a

19  Reunion/Anniversary/Millennium Celebration during the month of

20  May, 2000, NOW, THEREFORE,

22  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

23

24         That the Florida Senate commends Ms. Marie H.

25  Jackson-Wimberly for her lifelong dedication to teaching and

26  for her service and dedication to her community.

27         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

28  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Ms. Marie

29  H. Jackson-Wimberly as a tangible token of the sentiments and

30  good wishes of the Florida Senate.
