  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution commending the Gulf Breeze High

  3         School girls' varsity soccer team.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, each year there is a state championship to

  6  determine which soccer team in the state is the best in its

  7  division, and

  8         WHEREAS, in 2000, the undefeated Gulf Breeze High

  9  School girls' varsity soccer team won the 2A State Soccer

10  Championship by defeating Osceola at Pepin Rood Stadium in

11  Tampa, and

12         WHEREAS, the National Soccer Coaches Association of

13  America ranked the Gulf Breeze High School girls' soccer team

14  number one in the nation, and

15         WHEREAS, the team, consisting of Annie Adams, Brandi

16  Adams, Katie Childs, Elizabeth Davis, Allison Felkner,

17  Michelle Gorman, Brittani Herman, Laura Kelly, Mandy

18  Kreitzberg, Nikki Matsoukas, Monique Miles, Gwendolyn Oxenham,

19  Lauren Parks, Christy Pate, Summer Savage, Lacey Thomas,

20  Shannon Wing, Erin Ziegler, Abby Zito, and coached by Mike

21  Lagow, Pam Reynolds, and Brian Maloy have consistently

22  demonstrated the ability to work together to accomplish the

23  team's goals, and

24         WHEREAS, the team members successfully balanced their

25  academic and athletic endeavors and achieved a team

26  grade-point average of 3.54, and

27         WHEREAS, the team's respectful performance on the field

28  prompted public recognition across the state, and

29         WHEREAS, the Gulf Breeze High School girls' soccer team

30  sets an example for other students in Northwest Florida and

  1  across the state through outstanding academic performance and

  2  extensive extracurricular involvement, and

  3         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the Florida

  4  Senate commend the Gulf Breeze High School girls' soccer team

  5  for winning both the state and the national championships,

  6  NOW, THEREFORE,

  8  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  9

10         That the Florida Senate pauses in it deliberations to

11  commend the Gulf Breeze High School girls' varsity soccer team

12  for winning both the 2A state championship and the national

13  championship.

14         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

15  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

16  coaches and each member of the team as a tangible token of the

17  sentiments of the Florida Senate.
