1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Florida Building Code;
3 amending s. 553.73, F.S.; providing that
4 certain counties are exempt from the Florida
5 Building Code adopted by the Florida Building
6 Commission to the extent necessary to enforce
7 more stringent windstorm standards than the
8 standards provided by the Florida Building
9 Code; providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Paragraph (d) is added to subsection (4)
14 of section 553.73, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, as
15 amended by section 40 of chapter 98-287, Laws of Florida, and
16 by section 61 of chapter 98-419, Laws of Florida, to read:
17 553.73 Florida Building Code.--

19 (d) Notwithstanding any other provision of this
20 section, if a county has adopted, before May 1, 1999, a
21 building code, other than the Standard Building Code, which
22 provides windstorm standards that are more stringent than the
23 windstorm standards provided by the Florida Building Code
24 adopted by the Florida Building Commission, that county is
25 exempt from the Florida Building Code to the extent necessary
26 for the county to enforce the more stringent windstorm
27 standards.
28 Section 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2001.

2 SENATE SUMMARY
3 Provides that if a county has adopted by May 1, 1999, a
building code, other than the Standard Building Code,
4 which contains windstorm standards more stringent than
those provided by the Florida Building Code, that county
5 is exempt from the Florida Building Code to the extent
necessary to enforce the more stringent windstorm
6 standards.
