11  Senator Campbell moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         Delete everything after the enacting clause

16  insert:

17         Section 1.  Subsection (15) of section 230.23, Florida

18  Statutes, is amended to read:

19         230.23  Powers and duties of school board.--The school

20  board, acting as a board, shall exercise all powers and

21  perform all duties listed below:

22         (15)  PUBLIC INFORMATION AND PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

23  PROGRAM.--

24         (a)  Adopt procedures whereby the general public can be

25  adequately informed of the educational programs, needs, and

26  objectives of public education within the district.

27         (b)  Implement a policy for parental and guardian

28  involvement in schools which addresses the teachers' and the

29  administration's communication with parents and guardians

30  about school programs and student progress, parent and

31  guardian volunteering opportunities, and the availability of

 1  community resources that support classroom instruction and

 2  child development. The school board may encourage at least one

 3  of a child's parents or the child's guardian to participate in

 4  an orientation program at the time the child is enrolled in,

 5  transferred to, or promoted to a new school.

 6         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.

15         An act relating to school boards; amending s.
