  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to health insurance; creating

  3         ss. 627.6414 and 627.65753, F.S., and amending

  4         s. 641.31, F.S.; requiring certain health

  5         insurance policies and health maintenance

  6         contracts to provide for one routine eye

  7         examination and medically necessary followup

  8         for certain children; providing an effective

  9         date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Section 627.6414, Florida Statutes, is

14  created to read:

15         627.6414  Coverage for children's eye examinations.--A

16  health insurance policy that covers a child under the age of

17  18 must provide coverage for one routine eye examination for a

18  child up to the age of 5 years old and any medically necessary

19  followup.

20         Section 2.  Section 627.65753, Florida Statutes, is

21  created to read:

22         627.65753  Coverage for children's eye

23  examinations.--Any group, blanket, or franchise health

24  insurance policy that covers a child under the age of 18 must

25  provide coverage for one routine eye examination for a child

26  up to the age of 5 years old and any medically necessary

27  followup.

28         Section 3.  Subsection (39) is added to section 641.31,

29  Florida Statutes, to read:

30         641.31  Health maintenance contracts.--

  1         (39)  A health maintenance contract that covers a child

  2  under the age of 18 or provides coverage, benefits, or

  3  services for members of the family of a subscriber must

  4  provide coverage for one routine eye examination for a child

  5  up to the age of 5 years old and any medically necessary

  6  followup.

  7         Section 4.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  8  law.

      Requires health insurance policies, group, blanket, or
13    franchise health insurance policies, and health
      maintenance contracts that cover children under the age
14    of 18 to provide coverage for one routine eye examination
      for a child up to the age of 5 years old and any
