  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the transportation

  3         disadvantaged; amending s. 320.03, F.S.;

  4         increasing a fee to be deposited into the

  5         Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund;

  6         providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (9) of section 320.03, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         320.03  Registration; duties of tax collectors;

13  International Registration Plan.--

14         (9)  A nonrefundable fee of $2.50 $1.50 shall be

15  charged on the initial and renewal registration of each

16  automobile for private use, and on the initial and renewal

17  registration of each truck having a net weight of 5,000 pounds

18  or less. Such fees shall be deposited in the Transportation

19  Disadvantaged Trust Fund created in part I of chapter 427 and

20  shall be used as provided therein, except that priority shall

21  be given to the transportation needs of those who, because of

22  age or physical and mental disability, are unable to transport

23  themselves and are dependent upon others to obtain access to

24  health care, employment, education, shopping, or other

25  life-sustaining activities.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
