  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to road designations;

  3         designating Interstate 75 in Florida as the

  4         Florida Highway Patrol Memorial Highway;

  5         designating the Bartow Agricultural Center as

  6         the "Bob Crawford Agricultural Center;"

  7         designating the Science and Education Building

  8         at the Southeast Campus of Florida Atlantic

  9         University in Davie as the "Senator James A.

10         Scott Building"; designating a bridge on the

11         Jensen Beach Causeway in Martin County as the

12         "Frank Wacha Bridge"; directing the Department

13         of Transportation to erect suitable markers;

14         providing an effective date.

16         WHEREAS, thirty-seven Florida Highway Patrol troopers

17  have lost their lives serving the citizens of the state since

18  the Patrol was created in 1939, and

19         WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Highway Patrol have

20  played a vital role in protecting the citizens of the state on

21  our roads and highways, and

22         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the

23  Legislature take time out to memorialize the members of the

24  Florida Highway Patrol who have made the ultimate sacrifice in

25  the performance of their duties, NOW, THEREFORE,

26

27  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

28

29         Section 1.  Florida Highway Patrol Memorial Highway

30  designated; erection of suitable markers.--

  1         (1)  Interstate 75 in the State of Florida is hereby

  2  designated as the "Florida Highway Patrol Memorial Highway."

  3         (2)  The Department of Transportation is hereby

  4  directed to erect 10 suitable markers at appropriate locations

  5  along Interstate 75 in Florida designating the Florida Highway

  6  Patrol Memorial Highway. At least one of these markers shall

  7  list the names of every Florida Highway Trooper who has been

  8  killed in the line of duty.

  9         Section 2.  The Bartow Agricultural Center is hereby

10  redesignated as the "Bob Crawford Agricultural Center."

11         Section 3.  The Science and Education Building at the

12  Southeast Campus of Florida Atlantic University in Davie is

13  renamed the "Senator James A. Scott Building."

14         Section 4.  Frank Wacha Bridge designation; markers.--

15         (1)  The bridge on the Jensen Beach Causeway in Martin

16  County is hereby designated as the "Frank Wacha Bridge."

17         (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to

18  erect suitable markers designating the "Frank Wacha Bridge" as

19  described in subsection (1).

20         Section 5.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
