16 remove from the bill: all of said lines

18 and insert in lieu thereof:
19 (b) The department shall issue a temporary certificate
20 to any applicant who completes the requirements outlined in
21 paragraphs (2)(a)-(f) and:
22 1. Until July 1, 2002, completes the subject area
23 content requirements specified in state board rule.
24 2. Beginning July 1, 2002, completes the subject area
25 content requirements specified in state board rule or achieves
26 a passing score on the subject area examinations required by
27 state board rule.

29 Each temporary certificate is valid for 3 school fiscal years
30 and is nonrenewable. However, the requirement in paragraph
31 (2)(g) must be met within one calendar year of the date of

1 employment under the temporary certificate. A school district
2 shall not employ, or continue the employment of, an individual
3 beyond the one calendar year time period who has not met the
4 requirement of paragraph (2)(g). The State Board of Education
5 shall adopt rules to allow the department to extend the
6 validity period of a temporary certificate for 2 years when
7 the requirements for the professional certificate, not
8 including the requirement in paragraph (2)(g), were not
9 completed due to the serious illness or injury of the
10 applicant or other extraordinary extenuating circumstances.
