11 The Committee on Education/K-12 offered the following:

13 Amendment (with directory language and title
14 amendments)
15 On page 2, between lines 13 and 14, of the bill
16
17 insert: (3) Any student whose parent or guardian makes
18 written request to the school principal shall be exempted from
19 the teaching of reproductive health or any disease, including
20 HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, development, and treatment, including
21 HIV/AIDS, mental and emotional disorders, and mental illness.
22 A student so exempted may not be penalized by reason of that
23 exemption. Course descriptions for comprehensive health
24 education shall not interfere with the local determination of
25 appropriate curriculum which reflects local values and
26 concerns.
