  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Secretary of State;

  3         creating s. 15.051, F.S.; designating the

  4         Florida Scrub Jay as the official state bird;

  5         providing legislative intent; providing an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 15.051, Florida Statutes, is

11  created to read:

12         15.051  Official state bird.--

13         (1)  The Florida Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens) is

14  designated the official Florida state bird.

15         (2)  It is the intent of the Legislature that the

16  designation of the Florida Scrub Jay as the official state

17  bird is strictly symbolic and does not require any additional

18  protections or acquisition of habitat.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

20  law.
