2 An act relating to enterprise zones; creating
3 s. 290.00694, F.S.; authorizing the Office of
4 Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development to
5 designate an enterprise zone in Sarasota
6 County; providing requirements with respect
7 thereto; providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Section 290.00694, Florida Statutes, is
12 created to read:
13 290.00694 Enterprise zone designation for Sarasota
14 County or Sarasota County and Sarasota.--Sarasota County, or
15 Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota jointly, may apply to
16 the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development for
17 designation of one enterprise zone encompassing an area within
18 the county, or within both the county and the municipality,
19 that is South of DeSoto Road, West of Tuttle Avenue, North of
20 12th Street, and East of U.S. Highway 41. The application must
21 be submitted by December 31, 2000, and must comply with the
22 requirements of s. 290.0055. Notwithstanding the provisions of
23 s. 290.0065, limiting the total number of enterprise zones
24 designated and the number of enterprise zones within a
25 population category, the Office of Tourism, Trade, and
26 Economic Development may designate one enterprise zone under
27 this section. The Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic
28 Development shall establish the initial effective date of the
29 enterprise zone designated pursuant to this section.
30 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
31 law.
