  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to dangerous dogs; amending s.

  3         767.14, F.S.; deleting certain restrictions

  4         relating to the regulation of dangerous dogs;

  5         expanding applicability of provisions

  6         authorizing local restrictions; providing an

  7         effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Section 767.14, Florida Statutes, is

12  amended to read:

13         767.14  Additional local restrictions

14  authorized.--Nothing in this act shall limit any local

15  government from placing further restrictions or additional

16  requirements on owners of dangerous dogs or developing

17  procedures and criteria for the implementation of this act,

18  provided that no such regulation is specific to breed and that

19  the provisions of this act are not lessened by such additional

20  regulations or requirements.  This section shall not apply to

21  any local ordinance adopted prior to October 1, 1990.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.

25                          SENATE SUMMARY

26    Deletes a provision that prohibits local governments from
      enacting breed-specific regulations regarding dangerous
27    dogs. Expands the applicability of provisions authorizing
      local restrictions to include local ordinances adopted
28    before October 1, 1990.
