1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to concealed weapons; amending
3 s. 790.06, F.S.; prohibiting persons from
4 carrying a concealed weapon into a health care
5 facility or on its grounds or into other
6 specified places; providing penalties;
7 providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (12) of section 790.06, Florida
12 Statutes, is amended to read:
13 790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.--
14 (12) No license issued pursuant to this section shall
15 authorize any person to carry a concealed weapon or firearm,
16 nor may any person carry a concealed weapon or firearm, into
17 any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05; any police,
18 sheriff, or highway patrol station; any detention facility,
19 prison, or jail; any courthouse; any courtroom, except that
20 nothing in this section would preclude a judge from carrying a
21 concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed
22 weapon in his or her courtroom; any polling place; any meeting
23 of the governing body of a county, public school district,
24 municipality, or special district; any meeting of the
25 Legislature or a committee thereof; any school, college, or
26 professional athletic event not related to firearms; any
27 school administration building; any portion of an
28 establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for
29 consumption on the premises, which portion of the
30 establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose; any
31 elementary or secondary school facility; any area technical

1 center; any college or university facility unless the licensee
2 is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such
3 college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or
4 nonlethal electric weapon or device designed solely for
5 defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or
6 projectile; inside the passenger terminal and sterile area of
7 any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from
8 carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is
9 encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as
10 baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; any health
11 care facility, as defined in s. 408.07(23) or its grounds; or
12 any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by
13 federal law. Any person who willfully violates any provision
14 of this subsection commits a misdemeanor of the second degree,
15 punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
16 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
