1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to road designations;
3 designating the Florida portion of Interstate
4 75 as the Florida Highway Patrol Memorial
5 Highway; providing for the erection of markers;
6 providing an effective date.

8 WHEREAS, the Florida Highway Patrol was created by the
9 Legislature in 1939 with 60 uniformed members, and
10 WHEREAS, the Florida Highway Patrol has increased over
11 the last 60 years to more than 2,200 uniformed and civilian
12 support members, and
13 WHEREAS, the Florida Highway Patrol has as its primary
14 mission providing a safe driving environment on the highways
15 of this state, and
16 WHEREAS, the Florida Highway Patrol has the primary
17 enforcement responsibility for 11,921 miles of interstates,
18 turnpike and toll roads, and other state roads and has
19 secondary enforcement responsibility for 69,046 miles of
20 county roads, and
21 WHEREAS, since the Florida Highway Patrol was created,
22 37 troopers have died in the line of duty while performing
23 their jobs, NOW, THEREFORE,

25 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
26
27 Section 1. The Florida portion of Interstate 75 is
28 designated the Florida Highway Patrol Memorial Highway.
29 Section 2. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor
30 Vehicles shall erect suitable markers bearing this
31 designation.

1 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
2 law.
