2 A resolution recognizing Niceville High School.

4 WHEREAS, with the words "It is our pleasure to formally
5 announce that the Department of Education and our 1999
6 cosponsor, The National Association of Secondary School
7 Principals, has selected Niceville High School as a 1999 New
8 American High Schools national showcase site," Niceville High
9 School principal David Morgan learned that his school was the
10 recipient of a prestigious award from the United States
11 Government, and
12 WHEREAS, as it becomes more evident that young people
13 must be prepared to become effective citizens, parents, and
14 workers qualified to meet the demands of the global,
15 knowledge-based economy of the twenty-first century, all
16 students of New American High Schools are expected to meet
17 challenging academic standards and to acquire the
18 communication, problem-solving, computer, and technical skills
19 necessary to pursue college educations and careers, and
20 WHEREAS, realizing that such a goal requires the
21 involvement of more than educators alone, the association
22 encourages schools to form active alliances with parents,
23 employers, community members, and policymakers to promote
24 student learning and ensure accountability for results, and
25 WHEREAS, impressed with the overall success of
26 improvement efforts made by the school and the commitment of
27 school staff and the community to high levels of student
28 achievement, the review panel chose Niceville High School as
29 one of only 13 high schools in the nation to be so recognized
30 in 1999, an honor that was formally recognized in Washington,
31 D.C., on November 18, 1999, at an awards event headlined by

1 Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley and The National
2 Association of Secondary School Principals executive director
3 Gerald N. Tirozzi, and
4 WHEREAS, it is only fitting that Niceville High School,
5 its staff, and the community be further commended for the
6 outstanding strides they have made toward preparing their
7 students for life in the new century, NOW, THEREFORE,
8
9 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
10 Florida:
11
12 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
13 deliberations to further recognize and extend heartiest
14 congratulations to Niceville High School as the recipient of
15 the United States Department of Education New American High
16 Schools Award.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
18 be presented to David Morgan, Principal, Niceville High
19 School, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
20 herein.
