  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of Peter Warrick.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, on January 4, 2000, Florida State University

  5  captured its second NCAA College Football National

  6  Championship by defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies 46-29 in

  7  the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and

  8         WHEREAS, selected as the Sugar Bowl's Most Valuable

  9  Player was Florida State's All-American wide receiver Peter

10  Warrick, who led Florida State to a second national

11  championship by catching six passes for 163 yards, including

12  touchdown passes of 64 and 43 yards, returning a punt 59 yards

13  for another touchdown, and catching a pass for a two-point

14  conversion, bringing Warrick's point total for the game to 20,

15  a Sugar Bowl record, and

16         WHEREAS, Peter Warrick first came to the public's

17  attention playing football as a youngster in Bradenton,

18  Florida, and then went on to star at Southeast High School in

19  Bradenton, and

20         WHEREAS, in 1999, following a superlative three years

21  of play at Florida State University, Peter Warrick decided to

22  forego declaring his eligibility for the National Football

23  League draft to return to Florida State University, in hopes

24  of capturing the national championship that had eluded the

25  Seminoles in the national championship game against the

26  University of Tennessee one year earlier, and

27         WHEREAS, in the 2000 Sugar Bowl, Peter Warrick was a

28  dominant force in Florida State's victory and clearly excelled

29  on a field of great players, and

30         WHEREAS, Peter Warrick's championship caliber Sugar

31  Bowl performance was that of an incredibly gifted athlete and

  1  firmly established him in the public's consciousness as one of

  2  the most talented players in college football, NOW, THEREFORE,

  3

  4  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida:

  6

  7         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  8  Florida hereby recognizes Peter Warrick, native of Bradenton,

  9  Florida, for his outstanding football career with Southeast

10  High School in Bradenton and Florida State University.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

12  be presented to Peter Warrick as a tangible token of the

13  sentiments expressed herein.
