1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring Thomas A. Mylander,
3 Sheriff of Hernando County.

5 WHEREAS, born May 12, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland,
6 Thomas A. Mylander was educated in the public schools of
7 Pinellas County before graduating from Embry-Riddle
8 Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach, and gained his law
9 enforcement training from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
10 Academy, the Pinellas County Police Academy, and the Federal
11 Bureau of Investigation National Academy, and
12 WHEREAS, after proudly serving his nation as a member
13 of the United States Marine Corps, Tom Mylander has devoted
14 his professional life to law enforcement, having been employed
15 in the sheriffs' offices of three Florida counties for a span
16 of 30 years, including his years as Sheriff of Hernando
17 County, a position to which he was first elected in 1984 and
18 in which he has served with distinction for the succeeding
19 four consecutive terms, and
20 WHEREAS, as evidence of the high regard in which he is
21 held in his profession and his community, Tom Mylander has
22 been sought after to serve on and hold offices in a multitude
23 of local, state, and national boards and associations, and has
24 received honors and recognitions too numerous to set forth
25 here, and
26 WHEREAS, Tom Mylander is an active participant in civic
27 organizations and leagues in his area and lends his support to
28 local law-enforcement-related programs ranging from the
29 Hernando County Sheriff's Office Wee Care Program to the
30 Hernando County Sheriff's Office Citizens' Academy Program,

1 WHEREAS, after diligently serving the citizens of
2 Hernando County as their sheriff for 16 years, Tom Mylander
3 has chosen to enter retirement in November 2000, at the
4 expiration of his fourth term in office, NOW, THEREFORE,
5
6 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
7 Florida:
8
9 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
10 deliberations to extend to Sheriff Thomas A. Mylander its
11 heartfelt gratitude for his faithful service to his community,
12 his state, and his nation, to offer him heartiest
13 congratulations on his forthcoming retirement, and to wish him
14 many years of good health and good fortune.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
16 be presented to Sheriff Thomas A. Mylander as a tangible token
17 of the sentiments expressed herein.
