  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring centenarian George

  3         Clayton Bush.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, born in 1899 near McCall's Chapel in the Hatch

  6  Bend area of what is now Dixie County, George Clayton Bush

  7  marked his 100th birthday on September 15, 1999, and

  8         WHEREAS, having spent much of his life as a farmer in

  9  Lafayette and Dixie Counties, Clayton Bush fondly remembers

10  traveling in 1921 to Plant City in a two-mule-team wagon, a

11  trip that was to take six and a half days and would keep him

12  in the Plant City area until 1927, during which time he met

13  and married his wife Lucille, by whom he had three sons and a

14  daughter, and

15         WHEREAS, Clayton Bush has experienced a way of life

16  that for the most part has passed from the scene during this

17  century, one of months of daylight-to-dark work in the fields,

18  of growing food for the sustenance of the family, of laying by

19  the crops and seeing that there was an ample supply of wood in

20  store for cooking and heating, and

21         WHEREAS, in 1949, Clayton Bush took a job as a school

22  bus driver and for the next 15 years drove a route which

23  included Old Town Elementary School, and to this day still

24  remembers the names of many of the students who rode with him,

25  and

26         WHEREAS, possessed of extremely good health, both

27  physically and mentally, George Clayton Bush greeted the dawn

28  of January 1, 2000, as one of the very few with the

29  distinction of having lived during the 1800's, 1900's, and

30  2000's, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  3

  4         That the House of Representatives offers its heartiest

  5  congratulations to George Clayton Bush on his having attained

  6  the age of 100 years and extends its sincerest best wishes for

  7  a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life in the new millennium.

  8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  9  be presented to George Clayton Bush as a tangible token of the

10  sentiments expressed herein.
