  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the Ruckel IB Middle

  3         School Knowledge Master team for its

  4         outstanding performance in the 1999 Knowledge

  5         Master Open academic competition.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, on December 8, 1999, the 45-member Knowledge

  8  Master team of Okaloosa County's Ruckel IB Middle School found

  9  itself enmeshed in the 33rd annual Knowledge Master Open

10  academic competition, pitted against teams representing

11  approximately 1,200 schools from 20 nations, and

12         WHEREAS, facing their classroom computers and 200 tough

13  questions, their responses judged on both accuracy and speed,

14  the Ruckel students scored 1,643 points out of a possible

15  2,000 in a superb team effort that had combined the skills of

16  members whose individual strengths might lie in math, English,

17  social studies, or science, and

18         WHEREAS, at the close of an intense, rigorous exercise

19  that had witnessed the competing teams vying for top scores,

20  the Ruckel Knowledge Masters had not only won the school's

21  13th consecutive state championship, but had placed fifth

22  internationally, marking the third time that a Ruckel

23  Knowledge Master team had been among the top five

24  international winners, and

25         WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Ruckel IB

26  Middle School Knowledge Master team be recognized for its

27  stellar performance in the December 8, 1999, international

28  Knowledge Master Open academic competition, NOW, THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

31  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  2  deliberations to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of

  3  the 45 members of the Ruckel IB Middle School Knowledge Master

  4  team and to congratulate them, along with their academic

  5  coach, Sherri Houp, for the splendid team effort that led to

  6  the school's 13th state championship and its third-time

  7  ranking among the top five international teams.
