1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the College of
3 Journalism and Communications of the University
4 of Florida and designating March 30 and 31,
5 2000, as Celebration 2000 Days in Alachua
6 County.

8 WHEREAS, during the year 2000, the College of
9 Journalism and Communications of the University of Florida
10 will observe both the 75th anniversary of a formal curriculum
11 in journalism and communications and the 50th anniversary of
12 the arrival at the university of Rae O. Weimer to found the
13 School of Journalism and Communications, serving as the
14 school's first director, and
15 WHEREAS, the university's College of Journalism and
16 Communications has consistently been ranked by academics and
17 professional publications and organizations among the top 10
18 in the nation in its field, and
19 WHEREAS, there have been more than 18,000 graduates
20 from the program since its inception and, in the years since
21 enrollment and degree awards have been measured, the College
22 of Journalism and Communications of the University of Florida
23 is reported in a recent year to have had the third largest
24 undergraduate enrollment among all such colleges in the nation
25 and to have granted more undergraduate degrees in the field
26 than has any other college, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

1 That the House of Representatives designates March 30
2 and 31, 2000, as Celebration 2000 Days in Alachua County and
3 joins with the students, faculty, and staff of the University
4 of Florida and the citizens of the county in honoring the
5 College of Journalism and Communications and extending
6 heartiest congratulations on the occasion of the observance of
7 two very significant anniversaries in the history of the
8 college.
