                           House Resolution

           A resolution recognizing the Vernon Lady Yellow

           Jackets as the Class 2-A State Basketball
  4
           Champions.

           WHEREAS, March 4, 2000, will be noted as the point in
  7
    Vernon High School history at which the Class 2-A Lady Yellow
  8
    Jackets won their first state title, and
  9
           WHEREAS, in its second-ever trip past the beginning
10
    rounds of regional play, the team entered the finals with a
11
    come-from-behind score of 64-63 over P. K. Yonge, of
12
    Gainesville, and then waged a hard-fought battle to take the
13
    46-40 lead over Orlando Lake Highland Prep in the final two
14
    seconds of the championship game, and
15
           WHEREAS, ranked number 1 in their class since January,
16
    the Lady Yellow Jackets finished the season with an astounding
17
    team record of 32-1, and
18
           WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that state
19
    championship team members Leslie Strickland, Diana Coleman,
20
    Jenny Brazzell, Starla Maxson, Wilma Hernandez, Aysha Coleman,
21
    Ashley Jackson, Sherale Bland, Donshe' Brown, Kristi Campbell,
22
    Marla Harrell, and Donavan Duty be recognized for an
23
    outstanding performance during the 1999-2000 basketball
24
    season, NOW, THEREFORE,

    Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27
    Florida:

           That the House of Representatives pauses in its
30
    deliberations to congratulate Vernon High School's Lady Yellow
