2 A resolution recognizing Alpha Kappa Alpha
3 Sorority, Inc.

5 WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded
6 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, and
7 WHEREAS, this Greek letter organization is the first
8 sorority established by African American college women, and
9 WHEREAS, this sorority is an international organization
10 with approximately 150,000 members in over 900 chapters
11 extending across the United States, the Bahamas, Bermuda,
12 Great Britain, Germany, Korea, and the Virgin Islands, and
13 WHEREAS, many of these chapters are located in
14 communities and on college and university campuses in the
15 State of Florida, and
16 WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is committed
17 to community service and has made numerous contributions to
18 the educational, civic, and social lives of Florida's
19 citizens, and
20 WHEREAS, Norma Solomon White, an outstanding Floridian,
21 is the National President of this great sisterhood and leads
22 the 150,000 women of this great sisterhood in the current
23 international program, "Blazing New Trails: Developing a
24 Global Leadership Strategy Targeting the Family, Economics,
25 Education, Health, and the Arts," and
26 WHEREAS, Sonja Garcia, an outstanding Floridian, is the
27 South Atlantic Regional Director of this great sisterhood and
28 leads members of the sorority in Florida, Georgia, and South
29 Carolina, and

1 WHEREAS, Charlie P. Albury, an outstanding Floridian,
2 is the president of the largest chapter in Florida, Gamma Zeta
3 Omega, located in Miami, and
4 WHEREAS, members in the State of Florida contribute
5 thousands of volunteer hours implementing service programs in
6 their respective communities, NOW, THEREFORE,

8 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
9 Florida:

11 That the members of the Florida House of
12 Representatives recognize the commitment of Norma Solomon
13 White, Sonja Garcia, Charlie P. Albury, and the members of
14 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to community service and
15 express special appreciation for their service in the State of
16 Florida.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
18 be transmitted to Norma Solomon White, Sonja Garcia, and
19 Charlie P. Albury as tangible tokens of the sentiments
20 expressed herein.
