1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring retired Congressman
3 William Lehman.

5 WHEREAS, Congressman William Lehman served in the
6 United States House of Representatives for 20 years,
7 representing northern Miami-Dade County, where the Lehman
8 Causeway was named in his honor, and is credited with
9 obtaining funding for Miami's Metrorail system, and
10 WHEREAS, Congressman Lehman is to be honored with the
11 Tree of Life Award, presented by the Jewish National Fund, for
12 his decades of distinguished public service and his commitment
13 to the State of Israel, and
14 WHEREAS, starting out as a used car salesman in Selma,
15 Alabama, William "Alabama Bill" Lehman sought to earn a
16 teaching certificate and went to work at Miami Norland High
17 School, eventually being elected to the Dade County Public
18 School Board and again as chairman of the school board, and
19 WHEREAS, after serving on the Dade County School Board,
20 William Lehman was elected to the United States House of
21 Representatives, where he served for 20 years, and during his
22 last 10 years of tenure in Congress, Congressman Lehman held
23 the chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee on
24 Transportation, and
25 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the House of
26 Representatives, in concert with the Jewish National Fund,
27 recognize and honor this distinguished and dedicated
28 statesman, NOW, THEREFORE,

30 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31 Florida:

1 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
2 deliberations to congratulate Congressman William Lehman on
3 the occasion of his receipt of the Tree of Life Award from the
4 Jewish National Fund, and extends its sincerest appreciation
5 for his dedication and contributions to the State of Florida.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
7 be presented to Congressman Lehman as a tangible token of the
8 sentiments expressed herein.
