  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Katharine Tillman.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Katharine Tillman, a junior at Gulf Breeze

  5  High School, was one of three young women to receive this

  6  year's prestigious National Spirit of Women Award, and

  7         WHEREAS, Katharine Tillman, nominated by Sacred Heart

  8  Women's Hospital of Gulf Breeze, was chosen from among a field

  9  of 50 remarkable young women nationwide to be recognized by

10  the Spirit of Women Foundation, an organization established in

11  1998 in an effort to improve the state of women's health by

12  involving and motivating women across the country, and

13         WHEREAS, as evidence of the generosity of spirit

14  grounded in her faith in God, Katharine Tillman is active not

15  only in her church, where she teaches a Bible study class and

16  serves on the administrative board, but as a member of the

17  Pensacola Teen Board and of the Awareness Team sponsored by

18  the Camp Fire Boys and Girls as a ministry to middle-school

19  students, and has formed a small group in Santa Rosa County

20  which meets weekly to help girls cope with the social

21  pressures of high school, and

22         WHEREAS, with the $1,000 awarded each winner with which

23  to benefit her favorite charity, Katharine Tillman has chosen

24  to purchase supplies for the children she will be teaching for

25  two weeks this summer in a Bible school in Costa Rica, a

26  service typical of those she has rendered during previous

27  church mission trips to Venezuela and Mexico, and

28         WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Katharine

29  Tillman be recognized for the generosity of spirit which so

30  defines the life of this outstanding young woman, NOW,

31  THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  4         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  5  deliberations to pay tribute to Katharine Tillman, to

  6  congratulate her as a recipient of the prestigious National

  7  Spirit of Women Award, and to wish her unlimited success in

  8  her future endeavors.

  9         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

10  be presented to Katharine Tillman as a tangible token of the

11  sentiments expressed herein.
