  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Mrs. Marie H.

  3         Jackson-Wimberly.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, a native of the State of Georgia, Mrs. Marie

  6  H. Jackson-Wimberly taught school there for 17 years before

  7  moving to Tampa, Florida, and

  8         WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson-Wimberly's motto is "Serve your

  9  fellow man while you can," and she set out to do just that in

10  organizing the New Salem Play School and Kindergarten in 1947,

11  serving children who had been retained or had experienced

12  failure in public school, and

13         WHEREAS, though the name of the school changed to

14  Wimberly's Preschool and Kindergarten, Mrs. Marie H.

15  Jackson-Wimberly has operated and served Wimberly's Preschool

16  and Kindergarten and its predecessors for more than 52 years,

17  and

18         WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson-Wimberly has had a tremendous

19  impact on the lives and education of thousands of youngsters

20  and has received many awards for her community and educational

21  involvement and her humanitarian service, and there are many

22  outstanding citizens in Tampa and Hillsborough County who

23  started out at Wimberly's Preschool and Kindergarten, and

24         WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson-Wimberly is a beloved and well

25  respected member of the education arena and the Tampa Bay

26  community, and at 98 years of age, Mrs. Jackson-Wimberly

27  continues to actively participate in the operation of the

28  preschool and kindergarten that she created, still serving as

29  a beacon of light for countless youngsters from all economic

30  and social backgrounds, and

  1         WHEREAS, community leaders and the friends, family, and

  2  former students of Mrs. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly prepare to

  3  honor her at a Reunion/Anniversary/Millennium Celebration

  4  during the month of May, 2000, NOW, THEREFORE,

  5

  6  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  7  Florida:

  8

  9         That the House of Representatives hereby joins in the

10  recognition of Mrs. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly, and expresses

11  its sincerest appreciation for her service and dedication to

12  her community.

13         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

14  be presented to Mrs. Marie H. Jackson-Wimberly as a tangible

15  token of the sentiments expressed herein.
