1 House Resolution
2 A resolution designating April 17, 2000, as
3 "Florida 4-H Day."

5 WHEREAS, 298,304 children and 19,732 volunteers
6 participate in the Florida 4-H program, which brings the
7 resources of local, state, and federal governments together
8 with committed citizens and private sector participants, and
9 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program participants who
10 dedicate themselves to "learning by doing," are involved in a
11 diverse array of projects, in areas from animal science to
12 xeriscaping, and
13 WHEREAS, Florida 4-H members are dedicated to community
14 service, devoting tens of thousands of hours to their schools,
15 their communities, and the State of Florida, and
16 WHEREAS, "4-H'ers Helping the Hungry," the 2000 state
17 project, encourages clubs and individual 4-H members to pledge
18 to prevent hunger in their communities through actions such as
19 collecting food and donating it to the needy, volunteering
20 time with hunger-relief groups such as food banks and soup
21 kitchens, and holding fundraisers to earn money to assist in
22 the fight against hunger, and
23 WHEREAS, Florida 4-H members are actively engaged in
24 citizenship and leadership activities, which enable them to be
25 productive members of society and to contribute to the greater
26 good of all mankind, and
27 WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program performs an invaluable
28 service through the part it plays in preparing today's youth
29 for the future workplace by encouraging them to be the
30 leaders, not only of tomorrow, but also of today, NOW,
31 THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the House of Representatives of the State of
5 Florida pauses in its deliberations to express its
6 appreciation for the efforts of the Florida 4-H program and
7 its participants and to proclaim April 17, 2000, as "Florida
8 4-H Day."
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
10 be presented to the Florida 4-H Foundation as a tangible token
11 of the sentiments expressed herein.
