  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the contributions of

  3         Dr. Thomas A. Kinchen, President of Florida

  4         Baptist Theological College.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas A. Kinchen was born in Georgia,

  7  received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology

  8  from Georgia Southern College in 1969, a master's degree in

  9  divinity, and a Doctor of Education degree in pastoral care

10  and counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

11  in 1982, and

12         WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchen has worked with the Georgia

13  juvenile justice system, has held numerous pastorates, was

14  Vice President for student services at New Orleans Baptist

15  Theological Seminary, and was Secretary/Treasurer for the West

16  Virginia Baptist Convention, and

17         WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchen became President of Florida

18  Baptist Theological College in 1990 and during his 10-year

19  tenure there, through restructuring the college's

20  administrative structure and developing several new

21  departments, has helped increase giving to the college from

22  $252,000 in 1991 to $1.4 million in 1999, and

23         WHEREAS, under Dr. Kinchen's guiding hand, a $400,000

24  library expansion has been completed, R.G. Lee Chapel and the

25  Student Center have been renovated, and a $1.2 million

26  Assembly Center has been erected to provide much needed

27  classroom, office, and recreational space, and

28         WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchen has expanded the college's degree

29  and delivery system, including Weekend College, two distance

30  sites in Miami and Jacksonville, on-line courses via an

31  on-line campus, and two international partnerships with

  1  Barbados Baptist College and The Canadian Southern Baptist

  2  Seminary, and

  3         WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchen's vision of this college has

  4  become a reality through his efforts, NOW, THEREFORE,

  5

  6  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  7  Florida:

  8

  9         That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes

10  the contributions of Dr. Thomas A. Kinchen in strengthening

11  and expanding Florida Baptist Theological College as a

12  respected institution of higher learning.
