  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the Gulf Coast

  3         Community College Lady Commodores Basketball

  4         Team.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Lady

  7  Commodores represented the State of Florida at the 2000

  8  National Junior College Athletic Association Women's

  9  Basketball Tournament, making their third appearance at the

10  championship tournament in as many years, and

11         WHEREAS, the Lady Commodores placed seventh in the

12  nation in 2000 and 1998 and fourth in the nation in 1999,

13  bringing national recognition to Gulf Coast Community College

14  and the State of Florida and showing consistency as one of the

15  best teams in the nation, and

16         WHEREAS, Lady Commodores guard Carol Smith has been

17  named to the Kodak All-American team for the second straight

18  year and was named Florida Player of the Year, and

19         WHEREAS, Lady Commodores Head Coach Roonie Scovel has

20  been named Florida Junior College Coach of the Year for the

21  third straight year, and

22         WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Lady

23  Commodores have won the title of State Champions three years

24  in a row, in 1998, 1999, and 2000, NOW, THEREFORE,

26  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

27  Florida:

29         That the House of Representatives congratulates and

30  commends the Gulf Coast Community College Lady Commodores

  1  Basketball Team for their accomplishments, and extends

  2  sincerest best wishes for future successes.

  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  4  be presented to Lady Commodores Head Coach Roonie Scovel and

  5  to each member of the Gulf Coast Community College Lady

  6  Commodores Basketball Team as a tangible token of the

  7  sentiments expressed herein.
