1 House Resolution
2 A resolution commending the Spruce Creek High
3 School High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band.

5 WHEREAS, the High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band of
6 Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Florida, has been
7 invited to Pasadena, California, to participate in the 112th
8 annual Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2001, making
9 the band the first Volusia County high school band to be
10 invited to the parade since 1972, and
11 WHEREAS, the High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band is one
12 of only 16 bands invited to participate in the 2001 parade,
13 representing the seven southeastern states of Florida,
14 Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and
15 Oklahoma, and
16 WHEREAS, for the past 15 years, the High Steppin' Hawks
17 Marching Band has earned distinction in countless marching
18 band festivals and competitions, including superior ratings at
19 Florida Bandmasters Association Festivals, and
20 WHEREAS, the High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band has
21 further distinguished itself through its appearance in the
22 inaugural parade for Governor Jeb Bush and repeat performances
23 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers football games, Mardi Gras parades in
24 New Orleans, and Peach Bowl Festivals, as well as having
25 participated in the 25th Anniversary Main Street, U.S.A.,
26 Parade at Walt Disney World and having earned the distinction
27 of Grand Champion at the Ancient City Presentation of Bands of
28 St. Augustine, Florida, in 1999, and
29 WHEREAS, the Tournament of Roses Parade is considered
30 by many to be the most prestigious parade in the world, with a
31 curbside audience of over one million and a television

1 audience of nearly 400 million people in more than 100
2 countries, and
3 WHEREAS, the High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band is proud
4 to represent Volusia County and the State of Florida at the
5 112th annual Tournament of Roses Parade, NOW, THEREFORE,

7 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
8 Florida:

10 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
11 deliberations to extend heartiest congratulations to the
12 Spruce Creek High School High Steppin' Hawks Marching Band on
13 their invitation to participate in the 112th Tournament of
14 Roses Parade, and expresses its sincere pride and best wishes
15 to the band as it represents the State of Florida in Pasadena,
16 California, on January 1, 2001.
