  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Gerold L. Schiebler, M.D.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Associate Vice President for Health Affairs

  5  for External Relations of the College of Medicine of the

  6  University of Florida since 1985, Gerold L. Schiebler, M.D.,

  7  serves as medical director of Children's Medical Services for

  8  Districts III and XIII, and

  9         WHEREAS, having earned his degree from Harvard Medical

10  School in 1954, Dr. Schiebler has been a faculty member of the

11  Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida since

12  1960, served as chairman of the department from 1968 through

13  1985, and, in 1992, was honored as a Distinguished Service

14  Professor of the department, and

15         WHEREAS, in addition to his service as medical director

16  of Children's Medical Services in Districts III and XIII, Dr.

17  Schiebler has served as president of the Florida Medical

18  Association, and as president of the Florida affiliate of the

19  American Heart Association, and

20         WHEREAS, the recipient of awards too numerous to set

21  forth in their entirety, Dr. Schiebler has the distinction of

22  being the only individual to receive both the Abraham Jacobi

23  Award and the Doctor Benjamin Rush Award during any one year,

24  has had an Eminent Scholar's Chair in Pediatric Cardiology

25  named for him at the University of Florida, and has had the

26  Gerold L. Schiebler Lectureship established in his honor, and

27         WHEREAS, Dr. Schiebler has been honored by resolution

28  of the State Legislature for outstanding accomplishments as an

29  advocate of improved child health services, and, in 1990, a

30  bill was enacted designating the Children's Medical Services

  1  Clinic Building as the "Gerold L. Schiebler Children's Medical

  2  Services Center," and

  3         WHEREAS, the presentation of the Governor's Heartland

  4  Award to Dr. and Mrs. Schiebler by then-Governor and Mrs.

  5  Lawton Chiles and the more recent Proclamation by Governor Jeb

  6  Bush naming him the Children's Medical Services Pediatrician

  7  of the Decade are but further evidence of the high regard in

  8  which Dr. Schiebler is held, NOW, THEREFORE,

  9

10  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

11  Florida:

13         That the Florida House of Representatives pauses in its

14  deliberations to honor the distinguished Gerold L. Schiebler,

15  M.D., for his outstanding accomplishments and invaluable

16  contributions as an advocate for children of all ages in the

17  State of Florida and to wish him unlimited success in his

18  future endeavors.

19         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

20  be presented to Dr. Gerold L. Schiebler as a tangible token of

21  the sentiments expressed herein.
