  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the members of Working

  3         Through the Community, of Orange County.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, citizens who engage in public life devote

  6  considerable time, effort, and expertise to improving their

  7  communities, and

  8         WHEREAS, founded in 1994, Working Through the Community

  9  is a grass-roots organization designed to involve churches,

10  communities, businesses, homeowners, and residents in issues

11  affecting the quality of life in Orange County, and

12         WHEREAS, members of Working Through the Community have

13  worked for the civic, cultural, and social betterment of

14  Orange County by hosting town meetings to educate the public

15  and elected officials about issues of mutual concern,

16  participating on numerous county task forces and committees,

17  and providing input to government officials on such important

18  issues as school siting, roadways, drainage, development,

19  zoning changes, and fire, law enforcement, and emergency

20  medical services, and

21         WHEREAS, Working Through the Community was awarded the

22  1998 District One Community Enhancement Grant Award, was

23  nominated in 1998 for the Governor's Florida Sustainable

24  Award, and was nominated in 1999 for the Walt Disney World

25  Community Service Award, and

26         WHEREAS, as exemplified by their work with developers

27  to secure school sites and a new county park for their

28  community, members of Working Through the Community have

29  raised the standards for community service and have positively

30  impacted the lives of thousands of Orange County residents,

31  thereby enriching us all, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  4         That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes the

  5  members of Working Through the Community for their commitment,

  6  achievements, and contributions to their community.
