  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of the University

  3         of Florida Men's Basketball Team.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the University of Florida Men's Basketball

  6  Team finished the 1999-2000 season as co-champions of the

  7  Southeastern Conference, and

  8         WHEREAS, the Gators' regular season record of 23-6

  9  earned them an invitation to the NCAA Basketball Tournament,

10  and

11         WHEREAS, the Gators defeated Butler, Illinois, Duke,

12  and Oklahoma State to win the NCAA East Regional and advance

13  to the tournament's Final Four for the second time in school

14  history, and

15         WHEREAS, Florida's victory over Duke in the East

16  Regional was the first in school history over a

17  number-one-ranked opponent, and

18         WHEREAS, Mike Miller, Brett Nelson, and Udonis Haslem

19  were named to the five-man All Tournament Team, and Miller was

20  named the Most Valuable Player of the East Region, and

21         WHEREAS, the Gators defeated North Carolina 71-59 in

22  the semifinal round of the championship and lost to Michigan

23  State 89-76 in the National Championship game, finishing the

24  season with the highest ranking in school history, and

25         WHEREAS, Head Basketball Coach Billy Donovan, his

26  staff, and players have brought outstanding recognition to

27  themselves, the University of Florida, and the State of

28  Florida through their accomplishments, NOW, THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

31  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida hereby honors the University of Florida Men's

  3  Basketball Team for its outstanding regular-season and

  4  post-season play and for advancing to the National

  5  Championship game of the 2000 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball

  6  Tournament.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution

  8  be presented to University of Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan

  9  and University of Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley as a

10  tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
