  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing November 11-12, 2000,

  3         as Veterans' Weekend in Lake City.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Veterans' Day, a day of great significance in

  6  the United States, has been set aside as a national holiday

  7  during which tribute is paid to the memory of the men and

  8  women who gave themselves to the service of the nation, and to

  9  honor those remaining veterans among us who served so

10  admirably in defense of all that we as a free people hold

11  dear, and

12         WHEREAS, November 11, 2000, marks the 82nd anniversary

13  of the Armistice of World War I, which signaled an end to a

14  devastating international war that claimed the lives of many

15  American service members, and

16         WHEREAS, since that historic day, men and women have

17  been called upon again and again to defend the ideals upon

18  which this republic was built and, as a result, the United

19  States continues to flourish as a free nation, enjoying the

20  blessings of peace and liberty bought by past generations,

21  treasured and protected by the present generation, and to be

22  maintained and preserved for the generations that will follow,

23  and

24         WHEREAS, the citizens of Lake City have designated

25  Veterans' Day 2000 as Veterans' Weekend, a special time of

26  celebration planned for November 11 and 12, which will feature

27  the performance of the United States Air Force Thunderbird Jet

28  Demonstration Team at the city's North Florida Charity Air

29  Show, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  4         That the House of Representatives hereby applauds the

  5  designation of November 11-12, 2000, as Veterans' Weekend and

  6  the celebrations planned for those days.
