  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution designating November 9, 2000, as

  3         "Police Dog Appreciation Day" in Florida.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, in Florida, a police canine team can be

  6  required to successfully complete a rigorous, 400-hour

  7  training course, and

  8         WHEREAS, police dogs are taught to locate persons who

  9  are lost, injured, or deceased; search for evidence,

10  explosives, and illegal substances; pursue and apprehend, with

11  minimum force, criminals fleeing serious crimes; and protect

12  their police officer partner, and

13         WHEREAS, the duties performed by police dogs present a

14  high risk of harm, and

15         WHEREAS, to express appreciation and support for the

16  hard work of the police dogs that protect and serve the

17  citizens of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

19  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

20  Florida:

22         That the House of Representatives of the State of

23  Florida hereby designates November 9, 2000, as "Police Dog

24  Appreciation Day" to recognize the contributions of the police

25  dogs that protect Florida's communities.
