  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of the benefits of

  3         agricultural biotechnology in the State of

  4         Florida.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, genetically improved crop technology, born of

  7  agricultural biotechnology, may offer tremendous benefits to

  8  agriculture and the environment, such as increased crop

  9  yields, improved farm productivity, and enhanced quality and

10  value of crops, as well as conservation of topsoil and

11  increased protection of water quality, and

12         WHEREAS, genetically improved crop technology may

13  provide more benefits for society in the future in terms of

14  nutritionally and medically enhanced foods, and

15         WHEREAS, genetically improved crop technology has and

16  will continue to contribute to the success of American

17  agriculture in both domestic and international commerce and

18  trade, and

19         WHEREAS, universities in the State of Florida conduct

20  research and development to further explore the benefits of

21  agricultural biotechnology in an effort to expand the

22  nutritional and medical value of foods to enrich the lives of

23  all citizens of this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

24

25  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

26  Florida:

27

28         That the House of Representatives recognizes the need

29  to support the expansion of currently available products

30  derived from genetically improved crop technology, encourage

31  further research for new uses of agricultural biotechnology,

  1  and ensure that genetically improved crops grown by our

  2  state's farmers are marketed internationally.
