  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Alpha Kappa Alpha

  3         Sorority, Inc., on the celebration of its 91st

  4         anniversary.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, in January of 1908, with the motto "Service to

  7  All Mankind," Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., became the

  8  nation's first African American Sorority, and

  9         WHEREAS, since its inception, Alpha Kappa Alpha

10  Sorority, Inc., has become an international organization of

11  college-educated women, boasting a membership of 150,000

12  members in the United States, Germany, West Africa, the Virgin

13  Islands, Bermuda, Korea, and Great Britain, and

14         WHEREAS, the primary thrust of the organization has

15  been the promotion of the arts, economic empowerment, the

16  Black Family, education, health, and the IVY AKAdemy, and

17         WHEREAS, with the theme "Blazing New Trails--The Alpha

18  Kappa Alpha Way," the Zeta Rho Omega, Kappa Kappa Omega, and

19  Upsilon Xi Omega chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,

20  celebrated the sorority's 91st Founders' Day on March 12,

21  2000, in Fort Lauderdale, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

24  Florida:

25

26         That the House of Representatives extends its heartiest

27  congratulations to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., for 91

28  years of "Service to All Mankind," and offers its sincerest

29  best wishes in the sorority's future endeavors.

  1         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  2  be presented to Dr. Norma Solomon White, International
