  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the men and women of

  3         the Space Shuttle Program for their

  4         contributions to the United States Space

  5         Program and to the people of Florida.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, the Space Shuttle is the world's most

  8  versatile launch vehicle, having carried more than 2.6 million

  9  pounds of cargo, more than 700 major payloads to orbit, and

10  more than two-thirds of the humans ever launched to space, and

11         WHEREAS, the Space Shuttle, with unmatched capabilities

12  and 75 percent of its operational lifetime still ahead, will

13  serve as our nation's bridge to the future well through the

14  first decade of the 21st century, and

15         WHEREAS, the most adaptable, most capable, and most

16  critical elements of the Space Shuttle Program are the men and

17  women who prepare, maintain, and launch Columbia, Discovery,

18  Atlantis, and Endeavour, and

19         WHEREAS, their commitment to safety, dedication to

20  mission success, and continual pursuit of excellence provides

21  inspiration to America's youth, and

22         WHEREAS, the Space Shuttle team will soon launch

23  STS-101 on a mission to the International Space Station, and

24  later this year is scheduled to launch the 100th Space Shuttle

25  mission from the Kennedy Space Center, and

26         WHEREAS, the State of Florida is today the proud home

27  of more than 10,000 workers in the Space Shuttle Program, NOW,

28  THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

31  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida hereby recognizes and commends the men and women of

  3  the Space Shuttle Program for their contributions to the

  4  United States Space Program and to the people of the State of

  5  Florida.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  8  be presented to representatives of the Space Shuttle Program

  9  as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
