  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act making a supplemental appropriation;

  3         providing an appropriation to help fund the

  4         building of the National World War II Memorial;

  5         providing an effective date.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, the national campaign to establish a World War

  8  II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is

  9  seeking contributions from the various states in an amount

10  equal to one dollar for each state resident who served in

11  uniform during World War II, and

12         WHEREAS, most states have already introduced

13  legislation to participate in this "dollar per veteran"

14  campaign, and an ever-increasing number of states have

15  subsequently passed that legislation to provide for their

16  portion of the funds sought under the campaign, and

17         WHEREAS, it is estimated that the number of Florida

18  residents who are veterans of World War II amounts to 248,000,

19  and

20         WHEREAS, it is fitting, proper, and an honor for the

21  State of Florida to contribute its portion to the national

22  campaign for such memorial, NOW, THEREFORE,

23

24  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

25

26         Section 1.  The sum of $248,000 is appropriated from

27  the General Revenue Fund to the American Battle Monuments

28  Commission for deposit into the National World War II Memorial

29  Fund for the purpose of helping to fund the building of the

30  National World War II Memorial on the National Mall in

31  Washington, D.C.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
