  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to traffic violations;

  3         requiring a law enforcement officer who

  4         performs a traffic stop to inform the driver of

  5         the motor vehicle the reason for the traffic

  6         stop; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  When a law enforcement officer directs the

11  driver of a motor vehicle to stop and present his or her

12  driver's license and proof of insurance, the law enforcement

13  officer must inform the driver of the reason for the traffic

14  stop after the driver has presented his or her driver's

15  license and proof of insurance.

16         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.

19                          SENATE SUMMARY

20    Requires that when a law enforcement officer performs a
      traffic stop, the officer must inform the driver of the
21    reason for the traffic stop.
