1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to advanced registered nurse
3 practitioners; amending s. 893.02, F.S.;
4 redefining the term "practitioners" to give
5 advanced registered nurse practitioners the
6 privilege of prescribing controlled substances;
7 providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (19) of section 893.02, Florida
12 Statutes, is amended to read:
13 893.02 Definitions.--The following words and phrases
14 as used in this chapter shall have the following meanings,
15 unless the context otherwise requires:
16 (19) "Practitioner" means:
17 (a) A physician licensed pursuant to chapter 458,
18 (b) A dentist licensed pursuant to chapter 466,
19 (c) A veterinarian licensed pursuant to chapter 474,
20 (d) An osteopathic physician licensed pursuant to
21 chapter 459,
22 (e) A naturopath licensed pursuant to chapter 462,
23 (f) An advanced registered nurse practitioner,
24 certified pursuant to s. 464.012 who prescribes under the
25 general supervision of a physician licensed under chapter 458,
26 chapter 459, or chapter 466 and pursuant to a protocol with
27 that physician, or
28 (g) A podiatric physician licensed pursuant to chapter
29 461,

1 if provided such practitioner holds a valid federal controlled
2 substance registry number.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

7 Defines the term "practitioner" to include certain
advanced registered nurse practitioners for purposes of
8 the privileges to prescribe controlled substances under
ch. 893, F.S.
